What is Achilles tendon?
The Achilles tendon is the largest tendon in the body. It attaches the calf muscles at the back of the lower leg to the heel bone. Human body uses this tendon to stand, jump and run. Tendinitis, in simple terms, is the inflammation of tendon. Achilles tendinitis usually results from micro-tears that occur in the tendon during heavy exercise or running.
Achilles tendinitis commonly occurs in runners who have suddenly increased their running intensity. It’s also common in middle-aged people who occasionally gets involved in playing sports, such as tennis or basketball.

Types of Achilles Tendinitis
Achilles tendinitis can weaken the tendon, making it more vulnerable to a tear (rupture) — a painful injury that usually requires surgical repair. Tendon can endure great force, but it is still susceptible to injury.

Insertional Achilles tendonitis
It affects the lower portion of the tendon where it attaches to the heel bone. Tendinitis is not necessarily related to activity. It affects the lower portion of the tendon as it inserts into the heel bone.

Non-insertional Achilles Tendinitis
It involves fibers in the middle portion of the tendon and tends to affect younger people who are active. Tendinitis is more common in younger and active people. The fibers in the middle of the tendon start to break down, thicken, and swell causing pain and swelling.

Laser Therapy Treatment has been shown to produce promising results based on the data obtained from several published research studies. Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) uses low-power lasers and super-luminous diodes for the treatment of variety of medical conditions and has emerged as a possible treatment modalities for tendon injuries.
During this procedure, the non-thermal photons of light that are emitted from the laser pass through the skin layers. Different wavelengths and outputs of low-level light are applied directly to a targeted area. Once the light energy passes through the layers of skin and reaches the target area, the body tissue then absorbs the light. It initiates a series of events in the cell that result in healing damaged or injured tissue, promotes regeneration, reduction in pain & inflammation and an overall reduction in healing time by increasing intra-cellular metabolism.

Syrma Johari MedTech’s WinLase – Laser Therapy provides safe, effective and painless solution for Achilles tendon pain and injury. Patients experienced significant pain relief just after few treatments. Therapeutic laser also strengthen the muscles and increase range of motion. Most importantly this treatment help reduce inflammation/swelling. Laser Therapy is a non-invasive solution for treating sports injuries as it helps to avoid surgery if at all possible.
